Marriage is brought up through many different perspectives. Through Family, friends, your significant other, and religion as well. It seems as if Marriage is on a road map or framework of life. Many ideas of marriage are expressed in Islam through the Quran. It talks about everything from Trust to Forgiveness and Dowries.
“Prohibited for you (in marriage) are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, the sisters of your fathers, the sisters of your mothers, the daughters of your brother, the daughters of your sister, your nursing mothers, the girls who nursed from the same woman as you, the mothers of your wives, the daughters of your wives with whom you have consummated the marriage - if the marriage has not been consummated, may marry the daughter. Allah is Forgiver, Most Merciful. ” (Quran, Section 4 Verse 23)
In the Quran Chapter 4, Verse 23, it explains that incest is unacceptable and forbidden in the Islamic religion. A man is not allowed to take on his mother, sisters, daughter or any kin to marry. Marriage is seen as a sacred union, that should not be broken and should be respected as a union under the religion. If this union is broken, Allah forgives you at his most merciful state.
“Also prohibited are the women who are already married, unless they flee their disbelieving husbands who are at war with you. These are GOD's commandments to you. All other categories are permitted for you in marriage, so long as you pay them their due dowries. You shall maintain your morality, by not committing adultery. Thus, whoever you like among them, you shall pay them the dowry decreed for them. You commit no error by mutually agreeing to any adjustments to the dowry. Allah is Omniscient, Most Wise.” (Quran Section 4, Verse 24).
In chapter 4 verse 24, It talks about how women fleeing from marriage while they are at war with their disbelieving husbands. It talks about this Idea with “Dowry” in marriage. Dowry is property or money brought by a bride to her husband on their marriage. To most people, they might have not heard of what it is. This verse also is saying that if you are in war with your husband, it is a commandment from Allah. Everything else is allowed for you as long as you have taken care of the dowries.
In conclusion, Islam Has a interesting way of exploring marriage. The Quran has explored many situations and traditions in marriage. Dowries and multiples wives were one of the many topics discussed. I have seen many misrepresentations through the media. However, if the person could just learn about any religion, then its good to change their views.
